Efficiency is a seductive religion.

It seeks to bring maximum value and production at little cost or time. It whispers that we can maximize every hour, automate every mundane task, and conquer an ever-growing laundry list of to-do items while “learning” three new skills on the side.

I get that appeal.

But lately I have realized that the more we pursue this, we accidentally solve for a life without a soul.

It is everywhere in the news - AI is taking over the world. While frightening, there is good news, but it is more nuanced. If there is a short summary it is this: structured, well-defined problems are where AI shines, but when it comes to complex and sustained reasoning - AI struggles. And struggles a lot.

But the future can be a little more intimidating than just saying sustained complexity is where AI struggles. Enter the nuance.

One of the core-tenets of human struggle is change, and in a world that is rapidly changing we need some sanity. So many things can be said about humans and systems and design and… well, life. So how can we bring more peace and a little bit of joy?

This has been a core problem most of my life, shifting with the season in how it might be resolved, but one thing always has to happen - getting things done.
